YOLA COURT SENTENCES FIVE TO DEATH FOR THE MURDER OF A HERDSMAN


                             
The Yola High Court presided over by Justice Waziri today ruled that five accused persons will face the hook for the murder of a herdsman, Adamu, in Demsa Local Government in Adamawa. 
Justice Waziri stated that Alex Amos, Alheri Phanuel, Holy Boniface, Jerry Gideon and Jari Sabagi all of Demsa local government area were conspirators and therefore guilty of the crime and culpable homicide.
 The men were accused of attacking a group of herdsmen in January 2017, murdered the deceased, threw his body in the stream and also wounded as many cows as possible  in Kadamun village.
Justice Waziri ruled that the prosecution counsel Barrister Salihu Muhammad has proved the case against the five convicts beyond reasonable doubt. He also said their action was contrary to section 96 (1) (a) and sections 79 and 221 (b) of the penal code.
"I hereby sentenced the accused persons on counts one and two to death by hanging while on counts four and five; I sentenced the accused to three years in prison to run concurrently. Any aggrieved party is at liberty to file an appeal to the Court of Appeal Yola Judicial Division within 90 days from today," the judge ruled
