The former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muiz Banire, on Thursday covertly sent strong word to his erstwhile political principal in Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose loyal senators in the National Assembly opposed his confirmation by the Senate for his appointment as Chairman of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). Banire unequivocally cautioned that no dynasty or empire lasts forever.
President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated and communicated to the Senate for confirmation the appointment, Muiz Banire SAN which was read to the senate by Senate President Bukaola Saraki at the Tuesday sitting.
Solomon Adeola, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, presented a petition signed by two other senators from Lagos State, Funmilayo Tinubu and Gbenga Ashafa, against Banire’s nomination, demanding the Senate to turn down the nomination of the President.
Muiz Banire chided the Lagos Senators for opposing his nomination for appointment by the President as Chairman of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), ridiculing that unlike them, he does not need a political job to survive.
National Daily gathered that Banire had argued that his nomination is not a quota appointment or allocation of Lagos State that requires special approval of the senators, adding that he was nominated as a Nigerian because the President has a lot of confidence in him.
Banire declared: “In the first place, let me recognize the constitutional right of the three senators to express their views without hindrance. It is part of the democratic tenets we all cherish and strive to protect at all time.
“Equally, because of the respect I have for the offices of the senators, I will not join issues with them, particularly when it has become traditional and conventional for them to be objectors on occasions such as this.
“All I can say is that I wish them well and remind them that no dynasty or empire lasts forever. Whatever has a beginning will have an end.
“However, it is necessary to point out to interested or concerned members of the Nigerian citizenry that my nomination in the first place is not a quota appointment (as the three politicians and distinguished senators may have wrongly perceived) requiring their special approval to deal with.
“I was nominated simply as a Nigerian in whom the appointer has a lot of confidence and who is prepared to give his all in service of his fatherland.
“Beyond the above, let me also state clearly that I am blessed with so many alternative contact addresses and consequently, do not desperately need a political job to survive.
“It is those who are professional politicians and whose survival depends on such that can be so threatened. Here I am, a professional in politics.
“Of course, if this is a continuation of the consistent harassment, intimidation and threat to gag my advocacy for good governance and the rule of law, the effect unfortunately is otherwise.
“It strengthens me further and makes me resolute in my crusade. I shall continue to interrogate and agitate issues of good governance and rule of law, regardless of whose ox is gored.
“I am already demonstrating through my activities and engagements in several other spheres that I do not need to occupy a public office to add value to our community and nation.
“My relevance does not lie in public office or wealth. I have said it that I will continue to challenge the warped order till the ultimate change comes, sooner than later.
“Finally, let me equally apologise to those who feel I am not submissive to worshiping them. It is not my making but the covenant I have with my God, to whom all power belongs. They should bear with me as I am incapacitated in this regard.”
The three senators are products of the Tinubu dynasty in Lagos. Banire has been having running battle with the dynasty over the years, and is tainted as a member of the Abuja Forces perceived to be battling to dismantle the home dynasty in the south west.

You see, someone had told my wife about Bisi my girlfriend but I didn't know.

FIFA ranked the second goal scored by Super Eagles striker, Ahmed Musa, against Iceland 8th Best Goal of the Tournament out of the total 169 goals scored at the just concluded 2018 World Cup which took place in Russia.

Benue State Governor Defects To PDP
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor made the announcement during a meeting with elected local government chairmen and councillors on Wednesday at the Government House Makurdi, hours after protesting youths barred him from traveling to Abuja to attend the APC reconciliation meeting.
He said that after various consultations from his party, he was advised to look for another party, noting that his stay at the APC had expired.
The governor while making the announcement said, “I have formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“With your support and a blank cheque that I have been given to nominate a party, we can now fight justice, equity, and fairness for the people of Benue state.
“Let me formally announce to you that I’m now going to join the Peoples Democratic Party (P

The announcement brings to an end months of speculation that the governor will return to the PDP as a result of his disagreement with leaders of the APC in Benue and at the national level.
His defection follows major political decisions in the state over the last three weeks, all of which had fuelled the speculations of his exit.
The governor recently sacked over 80 percent of his cabinet members and, on Tuesday, the Benue House of Assembly impeached Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange as its Speaker.

Premium Times, citing a security source, stated that faced with the looming defection of lawmakers from the APC, some loyalist in party allegedly hatched a plan to create vacancy in the presiding officer post by taking out the two presiding officers from the Senate on the same day. Sources told the newspaper that in carrying out the plan, the police allegedly kept silent on its investigation of the Offa incident for over a month, but later mobilised to revisit the Offa robbery matter by inviting Saraki and allegedly planned to detain him pending the execution of the take-over plot at the Senate. READ ALSO: BREAKING: Buhari speaks on lawmakers' defections from APC The newspaper learnt that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was also supposed to arrest the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, thereby leaving the Senate without a presiding officer. In the absence of the two presiding officer, sources claimed the plotters led by the Senate majority leader, Ahmed Lawan, had planned to use the vacuum created to invoke the Senate rules to appoint Senate president pro-tempo, paving the way for the removal of the two principal officers. A senator in the anti-Saraki camp who asked not to be named, told Premium Times on Tuesday, July 23, that part of the reason the plan failed was because of the inability of the plotters to select who would succeed Saraki in the event the plot succeeded. “There is too much hypocrisy and selfishness. Those who planned it wanted to be the sole beneficiaries of the leadership change,” the senator said. Sources claimed Senator Lawan, who was leading the plot, and Ali Ndume, a former Senate leader who was removed from his post and suspended, were tipped to replace the Senate president had the plan succeeded. The duo refused to join their defecting colleagues on Tuesday, July 24, despite reportedly being among members of the ruling party who had recently had grievances. Concordeducation gathered that all the lawmakers from Kwara state and a few loyalists to Dogara from Bauchi moved into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Police Men In Lagos Banned From Wearing On Duty

LAGOS CP BANS POLICEMEN FROM PATROLLING IN MUFTI AND COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, GIVES OUT COMPLAINT LINES.
To ensure that policemen in Lagos are at their professional best always, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi has banned police operatives in the state from operating in mufti and commercial vehicles such as the yellow buses popularly known as Danfo or other commercial buses. Unmarked vehicles will only be used occasionally for covert operations targeted at a specific individual or group based on credible intelligence.
The Command is not unaware that some unscrupulous individuals impersonate as SARS operatives. To this end, the CP urges members of the public to take note of the dress code for SARS operatives in the Command. The dress code is as follows:
1. A black jacket and a fez cap.
2. In the front of the jacket, the word police is written in white at the top right part.
3. At the bottom left part of the jacket,
F-SARS 039 is written there.
4. At the back of the jacket are
inscriptions "F-SARS LAGOS," "SCORPION" and a red image of a Scorpion.
5. On the fez cap are inscriptions
"F-SARS" and "SCORPION."
The CP had, on assumption of office, set up a Citizen Complaint Hot Centre (CCHC) with the following telephone lines solely dedicated for lodging complaints against wrong actions of policemen. They are:

The Dollar Is Overvalued... IMF
News Agency Of Nigeria Reports
The International Monetary Fund said on Tuesday that the US. dollar was over-valued, and that the value could add to growth risks and trade tensions.
The IMF, in its annual External Sector Report, in Washington said China’s yuan was in line with fundamentals and nearly half of global excessive current account balances.
The IMF said the U.S. dollar was over-valued because current account surpluses and deficits were becoming increasingly concentrated in advanced economies.
The IMF report was based on exchange rates and current account surpluses and deficits.
The report was also centred on data and IMF staff projections as of June 22.
However, China’s yuan has dropped significantly in recent weeks as trade tensions with the United States have intensified.
China’s yuan hit a fresh 13-month low on Tuesday of 6.8295 to the dollar as authorities in Beijing signaled further monetary loosening to support the economy amid an escalating tariff war with the United States.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Reuters exclusively on Friday that he was concerned about the yuan’s fall and the Treasury is “going to very carefully review whether they have manipulated the currency.”
The IMF said its staff estimated China’s current account surplus grew slightly last year to 1.7 per cent of gross domestic product and listed China among countries with excessive balances.
Other excessive surplus countries cited by the IMF included Germany, South Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden and Singapore.
Countries that it cited as having excessive current account deficits were those that borrow too much.
U.S. President Donald Trump has broken with protocol in recent days and complained that Federal Reserve interest rate hikes were causing the dollar’s value to rise and to erode the U.S. “competitive edge” in exports.

The Kano State Assembly Members Have Not Defected To PDP....BUTU BUTU
The Majority Leader, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu-butu has debunked the rumour circulating on the social media that some APC members of the assembly have defected to the People’s Democratic Party. Kano Assembly He made the clarification while briefing newsmen in Kano on Tuesday. Butu-butu said the rumour was baseless, unfounded and the figment imagination of some mischievous people who wanted to cause confusion in the state. “Our attention has been drawn to a fake news being circulared on the social media that our APC members have defected to the PDP. “The story is not true but a calculated attempt by some unpatriotic elements to cause confusion in the state, “he said. The majority leader noted that even though six members of the House were still loyal to former governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso but they are still members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He, therefore, advised people of the state to ignore the social media stories being concocted by unpatriotic elements with the aim of disrupting the peace in the state. (NAN)
