COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A WORKERS CONGRESS IN IBADAN ON  MONDAY 22ND JULY 2019,OVER THE DELAY IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE.

After a careful examination of the situation surrounding the nascent struggle by labour for a new national minimum wage and the  recent table released by government as signed by the Executive  Chairman , National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, when negotiations are not yet concluded, we the Nigerian Workers are led to conclude that government is not ready to pay the new national  minimum wage as signed into law by President Buhari on 18th April 2019.

The table presented by government is not a product of collective bargaining and that they only succeeded in inconsequentially adjusting the salaries of officers from grade levels 01 to 06.We are all aware that levels 01 to 06 have been privatise thus little or no officers will benefit from the so called adjustment.

Painfully, despite all the time committed to the minimum wage negotiations, it has been fruitless.Worker's hope have been dashed and  our sufferings increased. We are surprise that government in not willing to pay the new minimum wage.

We the Nigerian workers therefore resolve as follows that:
1. Labour should immediately withdraw from further negotiations with government as nothing good will come out of any further engagement with government .
2..Labour should immediately resume the earlier suspended indefinite national strike on the minimum wage.
3.While Nigerian workers are waiting on labour to declare a national strike, workers should start engaging in isolated strikes,  and lock ups of workplaces in protest against the non implementation of the minimum wage.
4.As a pace setter state, we the workers at the federal secretariat Ibadan shall shut down the secretariat indefinitely from Monday 29th July 2019 until government is ready to do the right thing .
5.We call on the poor and denied workers of Nigeria to rise up and fight for their rights.
6.We call on civil society organisations to join us in the struggle for a just society.
7.As regards the general insecurity and massive killings across the county, we call on labour to organise a national day of protest.

Enough of the deceit.
Enough of the suffering .
Let all workers arise and fight.
Please share and ensure that every. Nigerian worker reads this.
The time to act is now.
We shall overcome .
